Rogers has recently advised all incoming and outgoing mail will require use of SSL encryption. In the list of e-mail programs there is no indication if this will require changes to e-mail settings on an iPad or iPod. For incoming mail (IMAP), turn on:
Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > your.email@rogers.com > Account > Advanced > Use SSL
Adjust the ports if necessary, but probably not necessary as the Rogers page shows standard SSL ports.
For outgoing mail (SMTP), turn on:
Setting > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > your.email@rogers.com > Account > SMTP > select the Rogers server > USe SSL.
Thanks for this. The process as you describe is clear for outgoing. The Use SSL toggle is "greenish" but cannot be turned on of off. Gor incoming I dont have the last step (use SSL). After advanced I do have a S/MIME toggle but nothing for SSL.
You can create a new SMTP server from that same screen. Once you enter the host, and your username and password, you can toggle on SSL then select it as your outgoing server.
Hmm, I created a Yahoo account to test this and it appears the SSL option is not there. Could be that it defaults to SSL if it's available.
When does the change take affect? You should know soon enough if it works or not.
