No sound on message tone, typing, and playing music, yet ringtone for phone calls and phone works.

I have an iPhone 4 which is updated to the latest iOS (7.xxx). I have no sound on everything except the ringtone when I receive a phone call. The phone part works. I've been through the settings, tried turning off Blue Tooth, etc... nothing. every once in a while the tone I use for messages will sound when I receive a message, but it will sound like only partial playing of the tone. I've done a hard re-set, still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
