My imac 10.5.8, intel core is not recieving any software updates, when i click on software updates it replies software up to date. any suggestions.

Quite possibly because there are no updates. With a system that old Apple has stopped support. Do not confuse updates and upgrades.

I am afraid that your guess is exactly what the issue is your machine is probably on the list.
The ht1752 article talks about "hardware service" which I understand to mean if you're looking for a repair center to replace a dead hard drive then you're out of luck. This isn't the same as Apple software updates. System updates typically (or at least used to typically) trail off after about 2 newer system versions came out and a system was dropped when it was third generation or more. 10.5.8 is 4th generation now. For some things such as iTunes, sometimes Quicktime, they seems to stretch it out a bit longer but they gave up on 10.5 a while ago.
