Turn of compressed memory

After trying virtual every suggestion in this forum and some from Apple Tech Support in addition to adding RAM to address slowness with Mavericks 10.9 (and now 10.9.1) the following suggestion to turn off compressed memory (at least for testing) was something we attempted: http://superuser.com/questions/668114/disable-compressed-memory-in-mac-os-10-9-m avericks

Unfortunately the change didn't appear to stick as sysctl still reports mode 4. Have tried to set the directive also while in Safe Boot mode to no avail. No error is thrown in either case after the password is requested in the terminal.

The last ditch clean install option suggested by tech support is something we want to avoid at all costs as this is a production machine with several projects currently on tight deadlines.

If anyone has a suggestion as to how compressed memory can be disabled or has success using the command on the superuser site, a response to this thread would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
