Apparently Sync Manager is turned off for syncing my contacts and calendar to using Blackberry Desktop Software - how can I switch it ON?

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.9 a few months ago.

Up till then I was happily able to sync mac Contacts and Calendar to my Blackberry Curve 9320 via Blackberry's Desktop Manager (for Mac).

Since upgrading the software tells me to that Mac Sync Manager is turned off. I know it isn't because everything else is syncing.

When I hunt through your support I find that there are solutions for this problem for other Mac OS versions but not for Maverick, so please tell me how I can once again use my business phone happily as I did before upgrading!

Many thanks

Janet

BlackBerry Desktop Software utilizes Apple's SyncServices technology in order to synchronize Contact, Calendar, Notes, and Tasks information to and from the Mac computer.

BlackBerry Desktop Software synchronizes information with the SyncServices database, which is synchronized with the desktop applications on the Mac computer (for example: Apple Address Book, iCal, Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook for Mac). BlackBerry Desktop Software does not synchronize directly to or from the desktop applications on the Mac computer.

Mac OS X Mavericks v10.9 and later does not use SyncServices, therefore, it is not possible to synchronize Contact or Calendar information using the BlackBerry Desktop Software on these versions of OS X.

For more information on SyncServices and OS X Mavericks, see the following Apple Support article:

Note: BlackBerry Desktop software 2.4 is still supported for use with Mac OS X v10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.

So in a nutshell, upgrading to Maverick has stopped me using my Blackberry as my business phone; there is no work around?

This has now cost me in time, effort and money!

I assume that I can not downgrade to Mac OS X v10.8 then?

All geared to use Apple only products... I moved from PC and Microsoft for just that reason and now being forced into using 'stuff' i don't want to use and don't trust.

I am not impressed.

We are all just users like yourself. If your Mac did not come with Mavericks preinstalled then use the backup you made of your previous system to reinstall it.

OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version

Thank you Gumsie.

I have read with interest part of the thread. However, I am but a simple user with standard software usage ability - to try to set up a server as a work around solution fills me with fear and dread.

Long gone are the days where I set up massive data servers following step by step instructions as a Project Manager / Busines Systems Analyst.

I now have a dance business and use my systems for support of that, I do not have the time, interest nor patients to reinvent the wheel of corporate technology especially when they are forcing us to go down a route that is specific to an attitude of a nation that is blinkered to international needs and the needs of their customers - another reason why I left corporate life.

I will continue to add manually and when it comes to upgrading my phone I will probably go Android (even though that is fraught with problems too).

PeterMac loves a joke! Stick with BB or upgrade to iphone.

Meanwhile why not migrate your contacts and cal to an icloud mail account, add it to your BB phone like any other mail account and sync both mac and phone to icloud. It worked on my playbook til I got this infinitely superior ipad mini.

Before upgrading did you have a full backup of your old system? What system did you upgrade to Mavericks from?

If you can find the backup, you can restore that pre-Mavericks system to an external bootable GUID partition scheme drive formatted as OS X Extended (Journaled).

Whenever you want to sync your Blackberry phone and contacts/calendars, boot into that system and perform the sync like you did earlier using Blackberry Desktop Software. Then you can export the whole address book as an .abbu archive and import that into Contacts.

I am doing this with an old Snow Leopard (10.6.8) installation and don't have any problems syncing my BB 9780 contacts. I generally sync once a week or so hence it is not too painful.

I had a similar issue. Infact, I got my wife an iPhone 5S , she was using a Blackberry Bold earlier. And I wanted to transfer all contacts from her BB to the iPhone. About 4-5 years back I migrated from a BB to iPhone and the process was relatively easy. After all these years I thought it'd be a piece of cake. So I re-downloaded the BB Desktop Manager on my MBP running OS X Mavericks. After backing up everything I figured I couldn't back up the contacts and started facing the "SYNCING IS TURNED OFF" error / issue. I spent quite a bit of time on the net but didnt get any help anywhere. So I just used my logic and downloaded a free app on the BB from the Blackberry World called - CONTACTS EXPORTER. All it did was made one file of all the contacts (about 900 or so) with the extension .vcf ! Which I mailed to the iphone and to my mac and BOOM! .... Just with one click all contacts were saved on both the devices.

Hope that helps someone.

Solution to the OS X MAVERICKS - Blackberry Desktop Manager / Software - CONTACTS Sync Issues:

Goto Blackberry World on your Blackberry Device -

Download - Contacts Exporter - for Free

Export all contacts as .VCF file (single file) mail this file to yourself.

Open it either on your Mac or on your iPhone (or any other device) and with one click you'll have all your contacts.

Apparently Sync Manager is turned off for syncing my contacts and calendar to using Blackberry Desktop Software - how can I switch it ON?
