I'm trying to install OS X Mavericks. I currently have 10.6.8 installed. Instead of downloading, it says "Waiting...." What does this mean?

I'm first trying to download, then I guess I open it and install?
The download is about 5.3GB so depending on your internet speed it may take quite a while to download. Is the blue progress bar moving in Launchpad?
