Has anyone else noticed that sometimes you have to tap twice on the globe icon to activate or dismiss the emoji keyboard? It's not consistent -- perhaps 50% of the time I have to tap the globe twice. This behavior started when I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7.
My iPad Air, also running iOS 7, doesn't have this issue.

Only happens to me sometimes when I don't pay attention to what I'm hitting, and I have big fingers and sometime it just doesn't hit it right.
Now on the ipad it's different because the keyboard is bigger, not hard to miss.
It can happen if you have multiple keyboard languages. The first tap will let you switch to a different language; the second tap will take you to your emojis. To remove keyboards that you don't use, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Edit and remove the ones you don't need. If you have one keyboard and an emoji keyboard left, then the usual globe icon now turns into an emoji icon that requires only one tap to take you to emoji heaven.
