What exactly is "Wifi Networking" in System Services?
Does anyone know what "wifi networking" is in System Services? Can I turn it off without any negative effects? Thanks in advance.

I'll agree with 3G to minimize radio work, but the others use so little energy is isn't quite worth it. But then I guess if you are out in the middle of a field all day, it might help a little. Thank you for your opinion.
Now that I'm all up to speed,
Just a side note,
I wish that turning this off would turn off the message about keeping wifi on for location accuracy. The only reason I turn off wifi is when I want to save battery life.
Please explain?
Are you wanting to turn off the service that manages the wifi? (sounds jailbroken, no support will be given)
Or just power off the wifi radio?
Settings > Wifi > off
Good question. I never noticed it before. And I have no idea what the setting does. It's not described in the manual, either.
Not jailbroken. Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services - WiFi Networking.
i think it is probably used to find your location with better accuracy when you are using a map or navigation applications while connectedto your wifi,(rem when you open a map,it will ask you to connect to wifi for better location accuracy).

WiFi Networking.
I means using loca; WiFi networks for assisted GPS location services. You can disable it if you're bent on crippling location services without disabling GPS or LS entirely. Not clear to me why anyone would want to do that, though it might save battery when in the wilderness.

Do you really see that much improvement in battery life when you turn off wi-fi? Mine is on all of the time, along with Bluetooth and I have one push Exchange account from work and I still see almost 2 days of battery on my 5S.
O.O But but... how?
I've only gotten 4 days from my 4S by not touching it and leaving it on the desk.
When down to the wire out in the middle of a field, yes turning off wifi/BT/3G will make a difference.
To note, I've had many iPhones (3G and onward) but none of them had a battery life >20 hours.
In the middle of a field WiFi uses no power. The only time it uses power is when it senses WiFi networks and attempts to connect. Otherwise it is just a receiver, which uses unmeasurably small amounts of energy. Even when connected WiFi uses only 30 mw, far less than cellular data for the same data volume. So in general leaving WiFi on will use less power overall than depending on cellular data.
I agree. As I said earlier, I leave both Wi-fi and Bluetooth on for my device always. I really don't believe turning the two of them off saves that much battery that it matters.
Good to know, thanks for updating on that.
