Poor implementation: image bugs and PDF TOC non functional

I have just completed my new eBook, which I made the mistake of writing in Pages 5 (latest version).

First, the Table of Contents is no longer active in teh exported PDF.

Second, I had an awful lot of buggy behaviour in this picture-rich book. Pictures mirroring; randomly changing pages; being swapped; losing the "keep with text" option; not being able to go where I want them; etc.

But worst of all, when I try to go back by exprting to Pages 09, that seems ot work.. expcet Pages 09 then says "The document <name> couldn't be opened".

I seem stuck. Any workarounds, anyone?

Let's get this clear.

You say you exported your book to Pages '09 format but Pages '09 could not open it?

Are you sure it was the right file? They all have the .pages extension.

You didn't go via iCloud or permit it to be synched with iCloud, bevause that will keep it a Pages 5 format.

Alas, yes, I am very sure I have the right file. Not a beginner user. The document is complex, many photos etc. And Pages 09 refuses to open the export in Pages09 format, alas. And no, I dod not go through the cloud. On my desktop, purely.

Did you clearly label the versions?

Try Copy and Paste, not sure if you can have both open simultaneously.

Also try exporting to Word docx.

Very clearly. I had "TravelBook-v16-draft.pages" open, then exported to Pages09 format as "Book-pages09-test.pages". Tried to open that with Pages09 (5.3, whatever it is) and got the error message.

Yup. Latest of everything; Macbook pro; both OS and apps all latest versions.

Ok. It's 3am and I can't sleep. Peter, do you need my help with Mavericks? 😉 Mine purrs despite the name.

I may be off base here, but do I remember correctly a post from this year or last where someone ran up against a aggregate image size ceiling in Pages ’09 while creating a book. If that condition is in fact true, and Pages v5 increased this ceiling, but fails to check for it in Pages ’09 exports, could this be a contributing factor in the current issue?

In Pages v5.0.1, have you tried Print > PDF > Save as Postscript..., then double-click the PS file to let Preview convert it to PDF, (or better) feed the PS file to Acrobat Pro?

Any improvement?
