The .mov clip/file plays fine from the desktop or drive but when imported to event of FCP X the clip ends up black (but with audio) ? Also when trying to play it the program often freezes and I get the wheel of death.

Need more information. What exactly are the media specs? What does it say in the QuickTime player movie inspector? How did this file get into your computer?

The video came to me as 1920X1080 .MTS file. I converted it to .mov file using Wondershare. It all worked and I can play the .mov file on desktop.
I play it with QT Player 7
QT movie inspector:
FORMAT: libX264, 1920X1080, millions ACC, stereo 44.100kHz
FPS 59.96fps
Data rate 14.42 mbits
Wondershare usually doesn't work. The codec is wrong. The frame rate isn't right, and it shouldn't be AAC 44.1.
Try ClipWrap to rewrap it or update to 10.1 that does native .mts.
OK I am trying that. I guess I should deinstall Wondershare.
This message I get from Clipwrap is I have QT Codec conflicts. Perhaps it is the same reason for FC crashes.
Clipwrap is $49. I already appearently wasted money on Wondershare. I'd rather have a multiple file converter if I am paying or do you recomend ...? What is a good overall converter?
I don't know which ones will do .mts. There are few free converters on the App Store that might work. You want to convert to ProRes at whatever frame rate the original is with uncompressed 48k audio.
P.S. You might try Wondershare with those settings.
I can't play the original .MTS file so I can't find the original bit rate.
I'll buy ClipWrap it converted the first minute of the clips OK
