Why won't iTunes respond when I try to add a folder to my iTunes library?

So I've been tring to add a folder of around 8 audio files to my iTunes library. They're on a flash drive that got the files from a CD. I imported the folder from the flash drive to my local hard drive (Windows 7) and then tried dragging that folder over to my iTunes library. Nothing happend. Even when I try to play the files from windows explorer it opens up iTunes and then still nothing happens. I've also tried the "add folder to library" iTunes function and the "add file" function with each individual file, but to no avail. I also tryied copying the folder to the My Music folder but that didn't work either. Windows explorer shows the folder there, without the flash drive plugged in, but it's not showing up in iTunes and the files won't play. Any help?
