I have a 2008 macbook pro 15". I've had to replace the power adapter pretty much once a year since I purchased the laptop in 09/10. Is there any chance of replacing this one for free or discount if I don't have applecare? Dropping $90 on this is not in my budget right now. Why are these power adapters constantly breaking?!

Maybe it's not the adaptor. Have you ever had this checked out since 2008? Then again, could be the user.

No, I don't think there's a chance, but you can always tell them your story, show them your receipts, and ask.
What part of them is breaking?
Could be the laptop itself, I suppose. I am very careful with it.
It's the part that goes into the actual laptop (don't know what it's called). It starts off only working at certain angles and then just stops working, and I'm always making sure that the cord is straight when I'm using it because I've had this happen. This particular one has been on the fritz since the summertime.
Took it in to Apple, the magsafe had a manufacturer's defect (bubble in cord), so I got a replacement for free 🙂
