imessages taking really long to recieve

Currently my imessages (works fine with regular texting) are taking anywhere from 15 mins to an hour to actually come in, and my girlfriends keeps getting mad at me for not texting her back. I checked through the settings and everything looked normal, but if you have any suggestions at all please let me know.
