AirPort Time Capsule? Should I back up my files?

I'm updating to Mavricks and my laptop came with (Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, ID, FC, FL, BR, FW, AI/ Mirosoft P,

O, W, X, C) for school. Is Time Machine/AirPort Time Capule only used via exteral hardrive or Ethernet cable?

Time Machine is a feature included in OS X that allows you to make backups of your files > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 You need an external drive.

The AirPort Time Capsule is a router with an included hard drive that allows you to make backups through Time Machine or to store files. You can connect your Mac to it through Wi-Fi or Ethernet to make backups and get Internet, although Ethernet is faster
