No it's definitely not gorilla glass... I don't know if it's even hardened glass. My iPad Mini's screen broke the other day with the slightest bump. When I submitted it to Apple to be fixed (I assumed it was weakened in production or something) they said it would cost $225 to replace it. So yeah, be very very very careful with your iPads... don't let your kids touch them or anything (buy them Kindle Fires). I'm going to attempt to fix my iPad Mini's screen myself (lest I cut myself). If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to move on to Android tablets with gorilla glass...
I came here searching for answers too. I am very disappointed by the number of scratches on the screen of my relatively new iPad Mini 2 (less than a month old?) compared with my two year old LG G4 phone.
New.
not my first device though.
Had an iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 4, iPad Air 2 (which this Mini 2 is replacing) so I know how durable the older devices were.
my LG G4 is the only device still in my possession and which I am using to compare the screens. This is the first device that I've seen having more scratches on screen than back cover or sides (used to joke, why don't they just cover the entire device with Gorilla glass especially since I normally need to replace the areas other than screen.
Incorrectly quoted iPad Mini version. It's an iPad Mini 4.
i don't know how to reply MichelPM, as there is only one company I know that makes iPads and that is Apple, regardless of which authorized reseller (I get mine from a distributor as I am the IT guy who procures such items for my company). Obviously it didn't have any scratches when I started with it, and now it does after a month. I also mentioned all the other iPads I've had in my possession including the much used and abused iPad Air 2 which I do not remember having such bad scratches at all.
Thus my question on the quality of the glass used in current iPads. This would enable me to make an informed decision on purchases.
Did you buy this iPad Mini 2 new or used from some other place?
New from where? Apple?
What do you use to clean the screen?
I've have 5 iPad models.
None have any scratches on the screen.
Over four months to come up with that reply? Bit of a slow burner...
Definitely NOT, it's VERY VERY VERY thin and fragile! I asked a questiona bout this very subject but don't seem to get any replies regarding it...even Apple support is clueless. Go figure...
I suspect you are wrong. I am pretty sure that when Apple specified the glass they would use, they did not go for the "VERY VERY VERY thin and fragile" option. Just a hunch....
It's not Gorilla glass but a screen protecter made of Gorilla Glass is avaiible.
My only concern abt the screen is, is the new display scratch proof or do i need to apply sceen protector?
I don't know if any class is scratch proof. I don't use a screen protector but my iPad never leaves the house. If you're going to be more mobile I'd get a screen protector.
Looks like you had an epic fail there "tonefox" lmao The glass over the screen is paper thin, sorry. Try again next time when you try to shoot someone down.
