the last update on my apple tv has been going on for like a week and i can't stop it even if i unplug it. it shows a pic of the tv connecting to iTunes, what do i do?

If ATV is unplugged and you are still seeing an image that is not coming from ATV.
If the update failed then you will need to connect ATV to a computer with iTunes via a USB cable and restore the software from iTunes.
