Can I use an HDTV as a monitor for the Mac Mini?

Is it possible to use an HDTV for the monitor on the Mac Mini? I am thinking of purchasing this for my daughter's Christmas present. She will be starting to college in January and will need it for writing papers, research on the 'net, etc.

I feel that it would fit her needs just fine, however, I don't have a monitor and would just like her to be able to hook it up to her HDTV to save a few bucks.

If it will work, can someone please tell me which types of cables I need to purchase in order to connect the Mac to the TV? Also, does the Mac Mini come with a keyboard and mouse or is all that separate? Wish the MBP wasn't so dang expensive. Mine's four years old an still runs great, save for the battery!

Thanks in advance!
