I inherited a 4th gen iPod touch. How can I wipe everything before giving to my daughter?

I inherited a 4th gen iPod touch. How can I wipe everything before giving to my daughter? I have the deceased apple id and password, but there is a 4 digit restrictions passcode that has 6 failed passcode attempts and has been locked and frozen. I would like to reset it and update to IOS7 before giving it to my daughter and her family so we can facetime.

iPod touch, iOS 4.3.3, I don't have the 4 digit passcode

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

Do not restore from backup. Restore to factory settings/new iPod
