Q: export optimised saves as .ad not .wdgt?

This had been working fine, and now when i export optimized it wants to give it a ".ad" extension not ".wdgt"

If i create a brand new empty widget it works correcty, but the larger widgets will not save properly.

I downloaded the mission to mars and cupcake aviary and these used to work, but no longer.

Please advise.

Thanks

Make sure when you start a new project, you're choosing the desired project type.  The project type determines the exported format and the file extension.

If you're getting an .ad extension, you probably need to click 'iBooks Author Widget' at the top of the New Project window.

New projects seem to be fine. Is there a setting once started to change back from one to another. Mission to mars always used to save as .wdgt now it nolonger does. Something must have changed.

    Thanks

I have since deleted and reinstalled iadproducer as i am running out of ideas, still a problem, so i conclude it is a problem with the project and not the software.

I also downloaded some more examples. These examples save as .wdgt fine. My original example of mission to mars is still a problem saving as .ad

I guess i have to just delete this project and redownload it. Shame as i was modifying and will need to reperform all my modifications. I must have done something to make it think it was no longer an iad for ibooks. I am worried i will do this again and be in the same boat down the line, so definitely still looking for answers on this thread.

    Thanks

    Hi,

That is a very interesting case and I'm sure Apple will be interested in it too.  I recommend that when you rerproduce the same result, create a new problem report with all the information and send it to Apple.

There are five Mars-related example projects, none titled "Mission to Mars".

On the "iAd Examples" disk image (iAd Producer 4.1 iAd Examples), there are two Mars-related projects:

    • "Space Tours to Mars", an iAd project for iPad
    • "Martiangram", and iAd Project for iPhone

This disk image also contain "Cupcake Aviary", which you mentioned, but it is an iAd project, not iBooks Author widget.

On the "iBooks Author Widget Examples" disk image (iAd Producer 4.1 iBooks Author Widget Examples), there are three Mars-related projects:

    • "Mars Lander", an iBooks Author widget, obviously taken from the "Space Tours" iAd project
    • "Curiosity Hotspots", a simple one-page iBooks Author widget
    • "Curiosity Timeline", an iBooks Author widget with an intro screen and an interactive timeline

Perhaps you are using the "Space Tours" project instead of "Mars Lander"?

Finally, if you do create the wrong project type, you can copy and paste pages from an iAd iPad (not iPhone) project into a new iBooks Author widget project.

Ok I have redownloaded all the examples and you are correct in all respects. I have been modifying the space tours to mars project and then failing to save as a widget and pulling my hair out. Thing is I have a spacetourstomars.wdgt !!  I can embed in a book and it works. I am mystified how I have this. All i can think of is somehow I downloaded the wdgt and did not create it myself. So my guess is someone else has dragged the pages (as you suggest) from the iad projects and created an ibooksauthor project then exported the widget that i got hold of.

So as i cannot find where i got the spacetourstomars wdgt, I guess it is a great exercise to see if i can cut and paste pages and recreate it myself.

The thing I love and am trying to get my head around is the ability to open the pamphlet.

    I appreciate your help!

I recommend you start a new discussion thread focused on the part of the effect you are trying to understand, e.g., the pinch-tracking, the image deformation, how it's tied into iAd Producer, what magic is being performed with iAd JS, etc.

To get you started, the core part of the display logic is in the code editor's BrochureMenu.js file, and the events are hooked into the "pinchSpread" and "brochure" objects. (You can select the individual objects by using the "Layers" button on the bottom-left of the footer bar. The events the selected object responds to are listed at the bottom of the Inspector sidebar on the right.)

    Hope that helps!
