OS X Server is a separate app from Mavericks.

Since you currently have Mavericks on your Mac Mini, you can purchase OS X Server, install it, configure services and play with it. If you want to go back to just Mavericks, you just turn off all the services, move the Server.app to Trash and move the /Library/Server folder to Trash and you're all done. No more Server. Knowing this, there's no need to purchase a new Mac Mini Server. Just buy a Mac Mini i5 or i7 and since you already purchased OS X Server, you can download it and install it on your new Mac Mini.

Hi

" . . . but when I install OS X Server don't I lose all my previous files . . ."

No. As keg55 stated in his response to your post: '. . . nothing is harmed . . .'

". . . bit like in windows were each OS needs a re-format of the HDD . . ."

No.

Regardless of what you decide to do you should try to maintain a coherent backup strategy whenever and wherever possible.

HTH?
