Waiting for scanner

Installed OSX 10.9.1 and the latest driver for Canoscan 9000f.

Photoshop CS6 13.1.2 "waiting for scanner" indefinitely. Worked fine before.

Image Capture same story of course.

Acrobat Pro XI has no problem working with the scanner so it is not the connection why the "handshake" fails.

I have the idea that something is not right with Image Capture 6.3. Any suggestions to fix that please? THANKS

Yes, I did restart, swich off and on, quit the programs and all that.
