What is the newest os I can upgrade to on a black MacBook?

I have a black MacBook back home which I tend to use every now and then. I have decided to upgrade us much as I can, but wouldn't like to purchase a new os if I won't be a hoe to install it (due to hardware requirements).

Any advice?

The latest black MacBook was released in 2008, so the latest OS X version you can run in OS X Lion, but only if you have got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. To check this, open  > About this Mac.

If you have got an Intel Core Solo or Intel Core Duo processor, the most recent Mac OS X version you can run is Mac OS X 10.6.8
