iTunes and the Gracenote option

I have just clicked on accept Gracenotes for iTunes and, for the first time, importing a valid CD does not copy properly. The first track copied really slowly and then it could not recognise the second and ejected the disk. I placed in the second CD and it did the same thing. I want to delete the Gracenote option. How do I do this please?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

As far as I know Gracenote is in no way connected to the ripping speed of a CD unless your internet connection is extremely slow (like 800 baud modem from the 1980s) and iTunes is waiting for the tracks to be labeled. Once the labels appear (usually a matter of seconds) that's all Gracenote has to do. More likely this is coincidental and your optical drive is having problems and iTunes is having to try multiple times to get a good read of the CD. Either that or you have a bad batch of CDs. Are these commercially made or burned - burned can be questionable quality? Third party rippers such as XLD make a log of number of tries, etc. so you can see if it is error checking that's an issue. Some versions of iTunes let you turn off error checking in preferences, but then your rip may not be any good.

Thank you for that useful information. However, the CD's are new and purchased legally by me from original source. The Apple CD attachement to my MacBook Air has been working fine up to this stage. I could try inserting something that I have recorded already to see what happens. Would this help?

Moreover, why did that option suddenly come up? I have used the system for over a year, and this is fundamental to me learing music for a choir!

I have no idea why it asked you. I run an iTunes from 7 years ago when the application was simpler and probably there was less to go wrong.

If you're content with the current reolution then great. If you want to check those CDs then you'll need to follow the trouble shooting suggestions I posted earlier.

Many thanks Limnos. For you information 'data bank' , the CD was a Warner Classic & Jazz. So if others have an issue then maybe that is why. As I need the recording (originally recorded by The Sixteen circa 1983 Handel Messiah), I will see if I can download digitally. More cost mind!! Have a very good Christmas. T
