Q: Setting up my AirPort Express disrupts my Linksys WiFi

Hello,

I am trying to setup my AirPort Express Base Station so that I can play music from my iPhone and iPad to my speaker system. I don't need it to extend my network because my router is in the same room, I just need it to stream music. I try to set it up by adding it to my existing network using an ethernet that is connected to my Linksys router. I get through all the steps and the Airport Express works for a little bit, but then the wifi stops working all together. It is like it interferes with the signal. As soon as I unplug or reset the Airport Express the wifi goes back to working. Can someone tell me why this is and how I can get it to work so that I can stream music to my stereo?

Thank you!

Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on how to configure an AirPort Express base station for streaming to see if you missed any steps. Please post back your results.

I have followed the directions exactly as reccomended in the link you posted with the same results. I am able to stream over Airplay for a few minutes and then the internet stops loading. The WiFi connection still shows up with full bars, but the internet connection does not want to load. As soon as I unplug the base station the internet goes back to normal. Would a setting need to be configured differently or are they interfering being too close together? I am using the Airport Utility program for windows on my laptop to set it up.

If the AirPort Express is properly configured as a network client (per the article), then only the Linksys router would actually be broadcasting a Wi-Fi network. The Express, in this configuration would act just like any other wireless client (computer, printer, etc.) ... so there would not be any type of interference between them.
