disable dock in mavericks?

is there a way to disable the dock in mavericks, even if temporarily? it keeps bouncing up when i've got stuff running in full screen and i get down near the bottom of the screen, and i end up clicking on something i don't want and it takes me out of my full-screen app to whatever it is i clicked on. it's incredibly annoying at best, almost a dealbreaker at worst...

i know in previous versions you could change the auto-hide delay to be some huge number, and that would usually fix it...but those settings seem to have no effect in mavericks...is there any way to do it? even if i could do something like turn the dock off with command-option-D while i'm in full screen, that would be fine...but it doesn't work. even if i've hidden the dock, when i'm in a full screen app the dock keeps jumping back up at me...

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

The steps you need to set this up are:

  1. activate auto-hide in System Preferences → Dock → Autohide and/or type ⌘+⌥+D
  2. open the Terminal and type: defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -int 100; killall Dock

You're now set up and your dock is disabled with a long delay.

You can reset to default by typing this: defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier; killall Dock

the apps in question are: 1) a linux virtual machine, with a toolbar at the bottom of the screen and 2) a jump desktop RDP session to my work PC, which is windows, also with a toolbar at the bottom of the screen. scrolling so whatever i need to click on isn't at the bottom of the screen isn't an option.

also, i don't want to move the dock to the sides. i like it at the bottom, i just want to be able to not have it jump back out at me while i'm in full-screen. never had a problem until the mavericks update, as in 10.8 and prior i could just set the auto-hide delay to some ridiculously high number and that would have the effect of keeping it hidden...

this is close to what i want...but it still wants the dock to jump back up. it's acceptable for now, but i still wish there was a way to completely turn it off. is there anything that will make it work like the autohide-delay did in 10.8 and earlier?

No joke. If there is something right at the bottom scroll so it isn't right at the bottom. Place the Dock on one of the sides.

also, moving the dock to one of the sides doesn't help either, it just moves the problem to one of the sides. if i move it to the left and want to click the start button in windows and accidentally run the cursor too far, the dock comes up. if i put it on the right and want to use the vertical scrollbar in an app, and run the cursor too far, the dock comes up. that's not really a valid solution...

Try and increase the time to a higher value 1000000:

defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -int 1000000; killall Dock

I wouldn't recommend to completely turn it off, but you could try the following to disable it:

mv /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app.bak

killall Dock

You should copy it back to its default name by typing:

mv /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app.bak /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app

the problem there is that it's still possible to click on something while the dock is coming up, and it still shows (the labels pop up) when i get to the bottom of the screen. i want something like autohide-delay was in prior versions, where i could leave the mouse there for x number of seconds and the dock would pop up but it wouldn't come up right away...
