Q: Unable to find airport base station

I am unable to find my airport base station for time machine backup on my MBP (late 2013).  Can see everything fine on my iphone via airport utility app.

 

Wifi is working fine on the MBP.  Tried rebooting, as well as unplugging and re-plugging in the airport base station (2TB).

 

Just updated the latest software update for Mavericks.

Mavericks is a mess.

 

Temporarily, connect an Ethernet cable from your MBP to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule and see if Mavericks will now allow the Time Capsule to be displayed in AirPort Utility.

 

If yes, then this is how you will likely have to connect if you need to make any configuration changes on the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility on the MBP.

 

In addition....if you have not already done so.....follow the steps in the support document linked below to check the iPv6 setttings on your MBP for both Wi-Fi and Ethernet to see that will allow the MBP to communicate correctly via wireless to AirPort Utility and the Time Capsule.

    Try powering off the Time Capsule for a few minutes and restarting it to see if the MBP can pick it up.

    No can do.  I reset the base station to factory settings and was unable to set up the network with the MBP (kept getting an error in the airport utility).  Was able to set up the network via iPhone airport utility.   

     

    Wifi works fine for all devices, including MBP, but not able to use time machine as the MBP won't recognize or find the airport base station.

    Making the appropriate change in the network system preference to configure the IPv6 to "Link-local ony" worked. Did not need to access the base station via an ethernet cable.  Can edit settings on the base station and Time Machine is now working.
