iPhone 5s charging cable does not work

I just bought my 5s last month and the cable that came with it won't charge my phone anymore. The phone doesn't even "ping" or make that noise recognizing somethings been plugged into it. I have tried the cable in different USB ports, wall mounts and even as a car chager. Nothing. There is no dust, debries, or water damage in the charging port either as I was able to use a friends lightning cable today and get a little bit of life back into my phone. Any thoughts on what might be the problem or how to fix it? Thanks.
