Getting the Wi-SPY analyzer to work on OSX

I recently bought a Wi-SPY spectrum analizer to help me check out our school's wireless setup, under the impression that the open-source drivers available at http://www.kismetwireless.net/wispy.shtml would allow me to use it on my Mac instead of having to have a Windows machine.

However, after downloading the latest version of that code (WiSPY-Tools 2006-03-R1), I get a build error and can't get the programs to compile. Specifically, it says that I am missing the "LibUSB" library. Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm using 10.3.9 with its last release of XCode (I have source-based Fink installed on the Mac, so I know that works). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've located the LibUSB project and downloaded the latest release available (0.1.12). The ./configure phase shows no errors but the make phase bombs out on the SGML stuff; guess I'll have to check my OpenJade version setup. However, doing a 'make check' gets me the following:

$ make check
Making check in .
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `check-am'.
Making check in tests
make check-TESTS

Is this OK? Or what can I do to get these tests to pass?

Thanks,

ah, eakiu's developer says...

EaKiu website is not down - however, we are aware that certain locations in the world can not reach it (it is available to 99% of the world, but there are a few ISPs in England and other parts of europe who block the site for some reason).

You can get a copy from me by EMailing me at eakiu@cookwareinc.com (EMail does get through, web hits are the only thing being blocked).

We just released the 3.1 Universal Binary of EaKiu today, btw.

EaKiu is, indeed, THE solution to using WiSPY on MacOS X. Worked wonderfully fast on my PB G4 and even though I am on 10.3.9 !! I will try it out later on my 10.4 testbench to see if I get any additional functionality, but all seemed to work ok on 10.3. Right off the bat, it helped me to discover that a neighbor has set up a 2Wire wireless ADSL router on the same channel as my access point >:(

Thanks for your help. You have freed me from having to use evil software from the evil empire... 😉

Cheers,

JMC
