Training of in-store personell on this issue is spotty. The answer is YES, as long as the Magsafe cord fits the Magsafe port.


The 85W charger is larger than the standard charger for that MacBook, but it produces the same charging Voltage.


It will charge at the same rate, and behave identically, not overcharge and not cause premature battery aging or any other side effect. Since the power adapter is not working as hard, the power adapter itself may run cooler than on a more power-hungry MacBook.


It does have a drawback: It is heavier. [That's all.]




Power adapters for Intel-based Apple notebooks are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple notebook, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.
