Q: File and Printer Sharing AFP

I have some questions regarding file and print sharing.  Firstly, do I need to install the drivers for my Canon printer before I can print a document from the computer that is sharing the printer?  I have done this, but after watching reading some tutorials on how to do this, I noticed that installing the actual printer driver was not noticed.  If I don't need it, where can I find the driver in order to delete it?

Also, I'm unsure on how to share a particular folder from mac to mac.  Originally I just wanted to share my documents folder, so I added it to the list and turned on file sharing.  On my other mac I pressed shift, cmd and 'k', located my other mac, signed in as a 'registered user', and now I seem to have access to everything, which is kinda fine, but it would be nice to know how to setup individual folders between macs with a password if possible.  I noticed you could add users via the address book, but as I'm the same person on both computers (iCloud), I couldn't figure out what to do for the best.

Thanks

Hello, much of it depends on which version of OSX you're on, but as far as File Sharing, if you login to the other computer with the same user credentials, then you'll have full access, just like you were on that 2nd Mac.

If you wanted to limit what is shared you'd need to add another username to the other computer & allow that other user only certain rights.

On Printer Sharing, you do need the driver installed, (most times anyway), are you able to Print to the other Mac's Printer?

Thanks for the reply, yes I can print fine, its just I wanted to check if I had pointlessly installed an unecessary driver, but you have just clarified that I haven't :-)

As for the file sharing, you mean go to system prefs, create another account, then go to the host and add the user that end?  It confuses me a little as you have 'everyone' and 'admin'.

Sorry the host is on Lion and the other computer is on Mavericks

You just need to add a user on the one being accessed I believe, then login remotely using that. I think it should be a standard account so it won't have admin rights to that Mac.
