10.6.8 ssh tunnel and socks proxy problem

Hi to all.

I am having trouble using a ssh tunnel and socks proxy. After establishing a connection with ssh -D port user@server i cant get a response with curl --socks4 localhost:port www.google.de from my macbook. I have 10.6.8 installed. Don't know why it doesn't work. I also have os x 10.9 installed and it works there like a charme. I checked the ports with netstat and everything seems to be correct.

Has anyone expericenced this problem before? Any suggestions what the problem could be?
