Oct 16, 2014 1:40 PM in response to gail from maineby janmt,I tried to do that but it rejected the old apple id:
This email address is not available for use as an Apple ID. You may already have an Apple ID associated with this address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.

Oct 16, 2014 9:38 PM in response to janmtby gail from maine,That is because you are signed onto iCloud/Find My iPhone with a different Apple ID - not a modification of the one you are currently using. You will need to to to: FORGOT APPLE ID to retrieve your old ID and password in order to turn off Find My iPhone and delete the old iCloud account from your device.
Best of luck,

iCloudWhat do you mean "mobile is asking for activation"? Do you mean a carrier activation? Like AT&T or Verizon? If so, you have to contact the carrier.

Nov 22, 2014 6:23 AM in response to gail from maineby princesslionlady,And this is where I get stuck in the loop:
- I cannot reset the password on my original Apple id as the email address it is connected to is defunct.
- I cannot temporarily reset my new Apple id to to the old one as apple don't allow that ("You cannot set up an Apple ID using this email address. Please try again using a different email address").
- I can't sign out of iCloud or find my iPhone as I signed in using the old Apple id which I don't have the password for and cannot reset as the email it is connected to is defunct.
I'm caught in a trap. I can't get out. Because I've got too many ids.
Please help?!

Nov 22, 2014 7:26 AM in response to princesslionladyby gail from maine,When you are trying to change your Apple ID back to the old email address (which is what you have to do to turn off Find My iPhone if that email address was used on the current Apple account in the past), you should not attempt to verify it. If that is where you are running into the error "You cannot set up an Apple ID using this email address", then go back into Manage your Apple ID (Apple - My Apple ID), EDIT the email address on the Apple ID back to the old email address, but do NOT verify it and do NOT change the password. Then go to your device and use your current Apple ID password to sign out. Then go back to Manage your Apple ID and change your Apple ID back to your current email address.
However, if you set up a new Apple/iTunes account with your new email address, then the old email address is attached to another Apple account, and you are going to have to sign into that account (using Manage your Apple ID) using your old email address and the password associated with that account. Since you wouldn't know the password, you will need to click on the Reset Password option in Manage your Apple ID, and then answer the Security Questions to reset your password after which you will be able to sign out of Find My iPhone using that password. If you don't remember the answers to your Security Questions, you can contact Apple Support to reset them (ACCOUNT SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS).

Nov 22, 2014 8:04 AM in response to gail from maineby princesslionlady,Thanks, GB. I appreciate your response. I can't answer my security questions either (I need to start writing stuff down and remembering where I've put it) so I've requested a call from the Apple people. Fingers crossed they can work some kind of magic.

Nov 22, 2014 9:11 AM in response to princesslionladyby gail from maine,The link I posted at the bottom of my response to you is where you can call to get them reset, so it sounds like you have done that. It is not uncommon for people to forget them after awhile BTW....

Nov 27, 2014 11:19 AM in response to gail from maineby kobiroget,Hi Gail,
You seem to know what you are talking about, so I hope you can help. My problem is that I do not know my "icloud" apple id... When I have tried to restore my ipad, it is asking for an "@icloud.com" email and I don't know what that is?
I have tried to follow your instructions, but I am unsure what to change my apple id to in Step 1, because I don't know?
Your help would be so much appreciated
Many Thanks

Nov 27, 2014 10:24 PM in response to kobirogetby gail from maine,Hi kibiroget,
When you see the iCloud email address that is being displayed and asking for a password, do you recognize it at all? Is your device a 2nd hand device that you are restoring for the first time?
Cheers,

Dec 7, 2014 12:10 PM in response to gail from maineby kobiroget,Hi Gail,
Thank you for replying....
No, they have given me the first letter of the email address which is k*****@icloud.com, but I don't recall ever setting this up. I have checked my yahoo email, and I did receive a "Welcome to icloud" email a year ago, along with terms and conditions etc... but I really can't work out what the email address should be,
Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Kobi

Dec 7, 2014 12:36 PM in response to kobirogetby gail from maine,Do you have an Apple ID that starts with "K" that you linked an iCloud account to? Every iCloud email address is linked to an Apple ID (the Apple ID was used to set up the iCloud account, so they are both the same Apple account). If you have an Apple ID that starts with a "K", then use the password for that Apple ID when it asks for the password for the iCloud.com email address.
If that "K" email address used to be what your Apple ID was, but you have since changed it, then post back and we will go through the steps to temporarily change your current Apple ID back to the old one so you can get the iCloud.com email signed out.
You can also double-check to see if this iCloud ID is attached to your Apple ID by going to Manage your Apple ID, sign in, and look at your "Alternate email addresses". If this is the Apple ID that your iCloud account is linked to you will see that iCloud email address listed toward the bottom of the page under "Alternate Email Addresses":
