Aperture freezes when trying to export photo

Everytime I edit a photo in Aperture, the program freezes when I try to export the photo. Why? I can't even "force close" the program, I have to turn off the computer!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

I can't even "force close" the program, I have to turn off the computer!

Try to send a signal from the Terminal, as described in this user tip:

If Aperture is unresponsive, how to quit?

What is your Aperture version?

Have you tried any trouble shooting steps?

First of all check, if you have enough free disk space for the export. The oprating system needs working space in addition to the size of the of the exported image file. Keep at least 10GB free.

Where are you exporting to? To a folder on your system drive or an external drive? Do you have write permissions on that folder?

Try to repair your Aperture library - see this Manual page:

Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

If repairing the database does not help, try "repair permissions" as well, and finally "Rebuild". Make a backup of your library, before trying to rebuild.

I have the same problem:

Aperture is freezing when I try to export a photo (doesn't matter if export version, originals or metadata)

I tried both Aperture 3.5 and 3.5.1

Next I tried different Macs: 27" iMac 2012 and 15" MacbookPro 2010 both running 10.9.1

And I tried all the other things that you usually do:

- tried different source images: raw, jpg

- restarted both Macs

- quited all other programs/services

- reinstalled Aperture

- deleted plist file

- deleted preferences files

- ALFA: repaired permissions (ALFA = Aperture Library First Aid)

- ALFA: repaired database

- ALFA: rebuild database

No changes. Aperture still freezes when I try to do any exporting (100% CPU, beachball and the "not responding" flag)

Any other ideas what to do?

- deleted plist file

- deleted preferences files

Does that include the presets?

If not, try if deleting the export presets will help:

~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Export Presets.plist

also, if necessary

~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/FileFolderPresets.plist

~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/FileNamingPresets.plist

How to delete the presets is described here: Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

Thanks léonie, but I already did that.

The Problem was not in Aperture, but in the system save/choose-folder dialog. I noticed similiar behavior in other applications when I tried to save some files.

I ended up reinstalling Mac OS X on the iMac and it solved the problem.

However, not on my MacbookPro. So I looked which programs I had installed or updated within the last two weeks. It looks like the 1Password Deamon was the problem. After removing all of 1Password, Aperture (and all other applications) worked again.
