I bought an ipad mini retina display last week and have updated it to 7.0.4. Now when I turn it on it shows the starry sky image briefly then goes black. To get back to the starry sky with the swipe bar I have to push the on/off button. I have tried resetting it but no luck, any ideas.

Make sure you press both buttons down together until you see the Apple Logo.
I have this same problem, and have had it on 2 different mini iPad with retina displays. I returned the first one because of this problem. Just bought another mini iPad w/retina display today and it does the same thing. Seems like a defect which requires an extra step to turn the iPad on. I don't like it. I want to know if all mini iPad with retina displays do this? My iPad 2 doesn't.
