can you use touch id without a passcode?

I've read that Touch ID really doesnt do anything. You will always still have to enter a passcode? Is this true?

No, that's wrong. You do have to have a passcode enabled in order to use Touch ID, but Touch ID work as long as it is set up and used properly. There will still be certian functions that require you to use the Passcode instead of the Touch ID, however. Touch ID is not a 100% replacement for a Passcode. It's intended as a supplement, to reduce the frequency of needing to type in your Passcode.

For the Touch ID to be active, there MUST be a passcode. You cannot have Touch ID without a Passcode. That's why 'any' finger works the way you have it set up.

Here are your options.

1. No passcode & no Touch ID = Just pressing the Home Button and swiping to unlock opens the phone.

2. Passcode & no Touch ID = Swipe to unlock, then enter Passcode.

3. Passcode & Touch ID = Either swipe to unlock, then enter Passcode OR Use Touch ID on the Home Button.

That's it.
