Q: External midi control of an AU amp sim plug-in

I'm trialing a guitar amp sim, Scuffman S-Gear 2.5, in Logic 9 and am trying to use an external MIDI controller to change some parameters in real time when playing live. I press Command L and bring up the controller assignnments box, then I adjust the parameter in the plug-in, then press the Learn button but it doesn't pick it up. I'm able to access all the plug-in's parameters by using Logic automation and they respond fine but I can't seem to get it to respond using an external MIDI controller. Is this possible?

The amp sim does have external MIDI control capabilities when using it in standalone mode (which I haven't tried yet) but I would prefer to use it in plug-in mode within Logic.

Thanks!

I just found this in the "More Like This" on the right side of my post and I'll give it a go:

    Yup, you can do this.

What I do (makes life a little easier for me) is:

    Create inserts
    Open up track Automation
Select the item I want to control from the pull down (eg Fuzz-Waah > Wah Level)
Press Option-A to open the Automation window
    Click on "Learn Message"
    Wiggle my controller
    Click on Done
    Close Automation window

You should then have a fully functional controller.

    A couple of wrinkles:

This only works when the track is selected. Move away from it and the controller no longer works. Return to it again and you'll be OK.

Foot switches (like all MIDI switches) can behave differently.

Press might activate and release might stop (like a note on a keyboard)
Press and release might do another (either turn it on or off)

You'll need to experiment but you should be able to get it working, depending on the type of pedal you have.

    Pete"

This worked fine for the first parameter using a midi footswitch, however I wasn't able to assign a second parameter to an expression pedal. I clicked the down triangle and selected another parameter and followed the same process but it seemed to overwrite the first parameter .... (?)
