files transferred from pc to my mac

I transferred all my files from my pc to my new mac. (yet to have microsoft office installed on the mac). All my files (ie word docs etc..) are on the mac now but not organised in folders as they were on my pc. it will take ages to organise them now!! does anyone know why?
