I'm trying to set up my ipod to play on my outdoor speakers (Bose 151"s) and I thought the Bose sa-3 power amp could run them, but when I connect my Ipod, either via my dock or from the headphone jack, I get very little sould out of the speakers. I have the ipod turned up all the way, and I have most of the volume limit set to let most volume through. Any thoughts? I have also tried to use the headphone jack on my Macbook Pro, also very little volume out.
If there isn't a power adjuster on the speakers, thats why. The same amount of output is being exerted into your speakers as would the headphones, thus giving you the low volume. The speakers need to be able to amplify the sound that is being played by the iPod.
Its ok... I don't know much about Bose systems. I myself have Altec Lansing inMotion speakers. They are powered on their own... which they have a volume adjuster. I just figured yours might.
Well there is your problem. The iPod doesn't produce enough decibals to sound like speakers. IF they did, then Apple would be in for a lawsuit, so as a precautionary sense, they decided to update ipod software with the volume limit so that you won't defean yourself and then they couldn't held liable for any hearinf loss. Clever people eh?
I understand that, and I have a Bose sa-3 power amp, which is designed to power the speakers, hooked up. Somehow the combination doesn't seem to be getting enough out of the ipod to work right.
But im curious, what do you use those speakers for? I mean, if they're speakers, you have to have connected them to some sort of power source, like a computer or amplifier
And also I know this sounds stupid, but my iPod has a skin, and when I try plugging my ipod via headphone jack, I forget thet the case is creating space when I plug it, so I get little volume. SO to solve it, I had to take the case off and then plug it again so I was able to plug it all the way.
And if your implifier works fine, and so does your iPod(You can tell that by checking if the vlume is fine by using headphones) then their has to be something wrong with the connection. Check ALL the jacks and ports and make sure that they are all plugged in all the way. IF the problem still persists then all I can say is that maybe your volume limit is lower than you think(It's always nice to double check) OR that the wire/cable your using for the connection is faulty. Try toggling with the volume on the amplifier
you would normally use the bose sa-3 amp if you want to connect other speakers such as your outdoor 151's to a Bose lifestyle system. You were probably better off buying a reciever and hooking up the speakers directly to that and then use an input on the reciever to hook up your iPod. I do this with my ipod and a cd player. I have both the Bose 151's and the 251's hooked up and it works great. You don't have to go crazy on the reciever i am only using a cheap sony but im sure you spent a pretty penny for the bose amp. but like i said that if for expanding the bose systems you already have such as a 3-2-1, a wave radio or lifestyle system etc. the ipod doesnt supply enough power either. hope you can figure it out
