CD Won't play or import into iTunes

Hi, I have 2 CDs, R.E.M & The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Neither of them will import into my iTunes library, or even play on my computer. These CDs appear to be .cda files, I was wondering if there was any way round this. It's really annoying me, I have tried many converters and none of them have worked. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this please. Thanks

Windows 7

That's strange isn't it! Great that it worked for you, unfortunately we eon't have a Mac, but a family member has a Windows XP Desktop. I'm going to try ripping it onto there, do you think it will work? And thanks for helping me by the way

Some of the sources that I read said the problem is mainly on Win7, so it is definitely worth a try on XP.

I've tried that, still won't work :/ have tried ripping them on Windows Media Player, Real player, Quick Time player and they still won't work :/

John,

If they don't rip in any program at all, I doubt you're seeing an iTunes issue. It could be your dirve, or more likely, if all your other CDs ripped fine, issues with the CDs themselves, such as surface damage or copy protection.

UPDATE: Turns out both the CDs are Warner Bros CDs, and so is my Led Zeppelin CD, which doesn't work either, can anyone help please?

John,

How is this for karma... A few days after trying (unsuccessfully) to help you, I encountered the same problem myself with a Warner Brothers CD. In my case, it was brought from Europe as a gift, and returning it was not an option.

According to a little research, there is strong evidence that Warner Bros is making intentionally doctored CDs that cannot be properly ripped on a Windows machine.

I used a family member's Mac to rip it, and copied the files over to my Windows machine, where they play just fine.

HTH.
