Q: Turning off iMessage on my iPad mini
I have shared data plan between my iPhone 4 and my iPad mini, the issue I'm having is that any of my contacts that used to use iMessage are coming up with failed. Now I have managed to get the contacts on the iPhone to change and send as a text message but sending something to the same contact via my iPad mini it comes up failed and only allows me to try again as an I message. It will not allow me to force it as a text message. Also when I go into settings and turn off iMessages as soon as I go to try and send a message on my iPad mini it immediately asks me to sign in using my Apple ID and not way to cancel out of it, by signing in it turns iMessage right back on. Please if there is any help that would greatly appreciated
iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.4

You can't use data on the iPad mini to send SMS text messages. You can only use iMessages with other iOS users or with Macs that are running Mountain Lion or Mavericks. There is no way to send a conventional (SMS) text message even with a data plan because the mini is not a phone and does not have phone capabilities.
So if you want to text with the iPad Mini, you have to use Message and that means that you must sign in - or you can download a texting app if you want to be able to text with non iOS/Non Apple users.
