Upon pushing power button, I get three beeps and a blinking sleep button in time with the beeps. Computer will do nothing from that point. After 10 minutes it will start up normally then go back to beeps after 15 min of activity. Any guidance for me. I am a new MAC user and the MACbook Pro was a gift from a friend.

That usually means a RAM issue. Take out the RAM modules and make certain that the connections are clean and reinstall them, making certain that they are well seated.
Have you recently installed new RAM? If so it may be faulty.
If no change you may run an Apple Hardware Test:

That may pick up some problems.

# beeps on start usually means Bad ram, have toy changed the ram? Maybe it is not seated correctly, or it is incompatiblw or just bad.
You can bring it to an Apple store Genius bar for a free evaluation/disgnosis.
If you installed 3rd party RAM, you should try to get a new set, as there may be a problem with it.
PLEASE HELP ME. I have no idea what a RAM is but the same thing happened to me and I have a large project due soon and I wrote an essay which I'm supposed to turn in soon. If I get the RAM replaced will I still have my documents??
Chandewww, greetings: RAM (your MBP's memory) failure does not equate to data loss. If you are in desperate situation and are not well versed in the physical internal parts of your MBP, local assistance at a repair facility may be your best option.
