Can not restore my restore iPhone4 and recovery isn't working

I can not restore my iPhone4 and recovery mode is not working. I have gotten both the black screen w apple and screen w iTunes logo & usb after repeated attempts to get it to work. I have updated Windows (Vista) and iTunes. I have restarted computer and shut down computer completely. What else can I try? PLEASE HELP!

Try recovery mode as described here. You may have to try more than once to succeed:

Thnks for quick reply but nothing on that screen has helped. It's starts as though it's working (restoring software, verifying phone) & then stops. I've checked for hardware issues too, switching USB cord around & still no luck. Any other suggestions that might work?
