How to use the Modifier to trigger notes?

Has anyone tried this yet of figured out if it is possible at all? It looks like the Modifier can convert controls to notes, but I couldn't get it to actually trigger a note yet. It seems to register the incoming control when I use the learn function, but the note on the corresponding synth won't play, no matter how I set it up. The info in the docs about the Modifier plugin is very sparse, but it looks like in theory it should work, shouldn't it?
