contact transfer to ipad

Hello,

I bought a new iPad air and wanted to transfer my contacts from my MBP ( Maverics installed ) to the new iPad via iTunes. When the iPad is connected I cannot find the box to select the option "transfer contacts".

It is just not there.

I have done it successfully once when transferring my contacts to my iPhone 4, but after reinstalling my MBP and adding Maverics without TimeCapsule backup the option "transfer contacts" doesn't show up in iTunes, neither when the iPhone is connected, nor when the new iPad is connected.

Please help! What can I do?

Note: I don't use iCloud for Synch and I don't intend to use it.
