Mod wheel instrument articulation in Logic Express

Hello all;
I'm new to all things Apple. In Garageband I can play different articulations using the mod wheel and Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack without making any additional settings. It just works. However, in Logic Express, the mod wheel does not appear to work the same way. The MIDI activity window shows the wheel is inputing data but the sound remains the same, no articulations.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
Bill

this simply depends on the sound sample you are using. are you using samples through a sampler or sample player like exs or kontakt or are you using a software instrument plugin of some sort?
generally the sound has to be programmed to perform different articulations. just the fact that you have a mod wheel does not necessarily mean, that every sound would respond it. it needs to be part of the instrument. if it hasn't been programmed in, you mod wheel will send data, but the sound will not change because it won't interpret any of the mod wheel's midi signals.
usually good sample libraries have pre-programmed effects to give you that dynamic playability.

Hey Bill, I had the same problem. Just load the symphony orchestra instruments into the EXS24 and bam it works as ordered. Don't know why the default garageband ones don't work but at least the fix is simple enough.

Oh, just in case you didn't know, all of the garageband sample instuments are located at the very bottom of the EXS24 patch list in a menu entitled "Garageband". Good luck.

Hello all;
Just a follow-up on my original question. After studying responses from this board and speaking with at least 3 Genius Bar people in the local Apple Store, I was able to determine that the problem was not with Logic Express or the Jam Pack. It appears that the mod wheel on my keyboard was sending on CC #1 while, apparently, Logic Express was looking for a signal on CC #4. I made the appropriate changes to my keyboard programing, saved it as a preset, and all appears well! Thanks for your input!
