Macbook Air mid 2011, new Apple TV and an Airplay that does not appear.

Please, help me!

I just received a new Apple TV that I am wishing to use with my Macbook Air. I got the ITunes working fine, but the Airplay is not working at all. My Mac does not have the icon for it anywhere. The devices are sharing the same network and all other checkings are made too. My Mac is a mid 2011 model (purchased in 2012) which is listed in the suiting devices on the Apple TV support page.

Should I update the software or what? I am getting pretty disappointed. Thank you in advance;)

About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs that do not support Airplay and mirroring.

Other solutions are the Air Parrot, StreamToMe, and AirServer.

Okay, updating the software to Maverick solved the problem... after purchasing and installing (the quite nice) AirParrot, that now became useless. Parrot was slow and behind the playback on my Mac and so seems to be the ATV mirroring too. The playback gets stuck time by time and then catches up again. Shouldn't be a network problem, but who knows. Now to sleep. Voihan perse!
