I am running OS 10.4.11 on My Intel Macbook. I bought the 10.6.3 installation CD to upgrade. When I put it in the drive, it whirrs around for a few minutes, then ejects without showing up on my screen. What is happening? Why won't it install. I have plenty of memory and an Intel processor,

I did look at that question before trying this forum. I have the proper processor, I have enough memory, and the point is that I cannot even get the installation CD to stay in the drive long enough to show up to use. It will not show up to be able to install, whirring around for about 20 seconds and then ejecting on its own.
It sounds like a hardware problem. Does CD drive read other disks? Are there scratches on the CD, or does it need cleaning?
Reads others fine. No scratches. Brand new disk, just out of the package bought from
Apple.
I know that you are very frustrated. Maybe the disk is a faulty cut. Here is what I would do I would take the disk and your computer to an Apple Genius in the store. They are very understanding and customer focused. As a courtesy the Genius can install Snow Leopard for you and you can send the defective disk back for another.
There is not an apple store near me. Guess I will have to call tech support tomorrow morning.

Even though the DVD drive reads other disks, I suggest that you try a lens cleaning.
Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, shoot some compressed air into the slot, or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and gently insert it inside the slot.
Perhaps this will make a difference.
