Trying to connect Alesis Performance Pad Pro to GarageBand

Hey Im new to recording and recently just got a new MIDI drum pad today and have been trying to hook it up to garageband so that i can record. I am able to play it when i plug in headphones so i know that it works and i am able to hook up other MIDI devices to garageband and get a good sound out of them so i know that my audio interface is working properly. The problem is that i cant seem to find the device in garageband. Any advice would be great.
