where can I get a working version of iBooks for my iPad running iOS 5.1.1 ( not upgradeable)

I want to read a book only available as iBook

this was the only reason my daughter bought me a original iPad for Christmas, we were told that any iPad would do, but I cannot install iBooks as my iPad will not support an OS higher than 5.1.1 and iBooks 3 requires iOS 7

there must be a repository of older apps somewhere, I just need help to find it

Have you tried the instructions on the page that you posted from ? Try downloading the current version of the iBooks app on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it
