Time capsule is using up my data plan. How can I set it to weekly backups

I have a mac mountain lion and airport time capsule and verizon wireless internet. My time capsule is using up my data plan very fast. How can I set time capsule to back up only once a week instead of everyday. I bought apple items in 2010

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), iOS 7.0.4

If you are asking about Time Machine backups, or even other backups, this type of operation occurs over your "local" network, not over your "Internet" connection

Assuming that the Time Capsule is configured correctly, and you have made no recent changes on the setup of the Time Capsule, your Internet data use would not be related to the Time Capsule at all for backup purposes.

While there are methods.....not really recommended.....to reduce the frequency of Time Machine backups, you would be trying to treat the symptoms, rather than the cause of your issues.

The backup data that passes from your Mac to the Time Capsule....whether you use Time Machine or not....occurs over your "local" network. So, let's take Time Machine out of the discussion for now and say that you backup some data from your Mac to the Time Capsule hard drive.

This data transfer never reaches the Internet. It stays on your local network. As such, it has no effect on your Internet connection or your use of data on your Internet connection plan.

If you are using up your Internet data plan faster than expected, there is a reason for this, but it is definitely not your backups that are causing the problem....whether you use Time Machine or not.

If you are interested, and you are using Time Machine, there is an application that will allow you to specify exactly when and how often backups will occur. I am not necessarily recommending this, because it will not do anything to help your Internet data use issue.

There is no " special local network". Where is that feature in the settings? It has to be wireless internet. The only thing I have is Verizon wireless internet that plugs INTO time capsule. Nothing plugs into the computer..And it has to use data.... somehow...there is no explaination for how 2 GB of data were used with only small web surfing and email. There is NO cable from the time capsule to the mac ????

Where is the "local network" setting??? I don't see it.

There is no "local" network setting. Backups do not occur over your Internet connection.

If you copy a file from your computer to a hard drive on your network, that data transfer never reaches the Internet. If you cannot understand this, then I cannot help. Maybe someone else can explain what I have tried to do, but have failed.

Your Internet data use problem is being caused by something else.

I have a couples of question.

1. Does time capsule transmit signal and can get data and upload when it doesn't have the ethernet cable plug in?

2. Does download and upload data to the time capsule use internet data usage?

3. Does leaving the ethernet cable plug in to the time capsule when not using it use up internet data usage?

1. It must be connected to your cable/DSL modem to provide internet access.

2. Yes, it uses internet data if you are connected to the internet and using it.

3. Not if you are not using the internet.

Ok, I have seen this on other questions. Time Capsule is not Time Machine. Time Capsule is not plugged into the computer. Time capsule doesn't work when the internet isn't plugged in. I have no cable from the mac to the Time machine. If there is a special secret "land network" from the mac to the Time capsule. Where is located in the settings? If not, the data must transfer over the interent. I'm not pulling bits and pieces together. How does data trave from mac to time capsule?
